Osteopathy & Getting Older
Osteopathy can be very useful to loosen up the joints and muscle tension which can occur as people get older. The aim of the treatment is to treat not too much and not too little.
Even rheumatoid arthritis can be treated in the non inflammatory stage to help the body, as a whole, function well and reduce symptoms of pain. Treatment can be beneficial for post-operative pain or after an injury has resulted in chronic pain.
An osteopath cannot eliminate the osteo-arthritic changes in the joints, but the pain is caused by the joint space narrowing and the muscles tightening.
The aim of the treatment is to improve the function of the joint by reducing the muscle tone and gapping the joints to improve overall function. It is a management problem and osteopathy can be an effective pain management tool together with exercise diet and medication.
